Tae Kwon Do is a martial art that was created and developed in Korea over the course of more than 2,000 years. The earliest records of Tae Kwon Do practice date back to about 50 B.C. The name "Tae Kwon Do" comes from 3 root words: Tae means "to kick" or "Smash with the feet," Kwon implies "punching" or "destroying with the hand or fist," and Do means "way" or "method." In the year 2000, Tae Kwon Do became an official Olympic medal sport.
